About Us

Founded in the fall of 2012, the Fleur De Lys Chamber Orchestra is excited to bring a wide variety of string orchestra music to New Orleans' audiences. It is comprised of top amateur and professional musicians from around the world. The musicians’ backgrounds couldn’t be more diverse: the group includes students and graduates of musical performance from Loyola, music teachers, and people who have talents in other areas, such as medicine, art, education, and law, just to name a few. All musicians are passionate about exploring classical music together and have played their instrument from early childhood. They have performed with a multitude of orchestras and chamber ensembles in various cities. The group is proud to play under the direction of Francis Scully, a highly regarded local conductor and string player, who greatly inspires through his musicality and professionalism.

The Fleur De Lys Chamber Orchestra promotes the excellence of music through string orchestra, and is committed to providing high quality performances to the New Orleans Area.  The members have a desire not only to improve as musicians but also to achieve great artistic results as a group. As the orchestra is committed to creativity and innovation, we hope our concerts will reach high musical standards. We would like to move the audience and perform music that is exciting for all participants!

The ensemble had its debut at the Scandinavian Festival in November 2012 with classical music for strings by all Scandinavian composers. Besides the Norwegian Seamen's Church, the group has performed at Encore Academy, a local fine arts charter school, at Tulane University's Rogers Memorial Chapel, and at the beautiful Marigny Opera House - a church of the arts.

Our most recent concerts featured an exciting variety of works for strings by Barber, Bartok, Dvorak, Franck, Grieg, Handel, Holst, Marcello, Respighi, and Shostakovich. For our winter concert 2013, we invited Maria Elliott, oboe, Jessica Reddick, soprano, and Hani Nakhoul, piano, to join the group as soloists. The highlight of our past fall concert in October 2014 was harpist Cathy Anderson's performance of Debussy's Danse Sacrée et Profane.

The Fleur de Lys String Quartet was founded in 2010 by Christian and Miriam Lilje, Sarah Eaton McCall and Andrea Gomez. The cellist Maxim Samarov joined the quartet in 2011. In its last recitals at the Norwegian Seamen's Church, the quartet performed Ludwig van Beethoven's String Quartet Op. 18, No. 4, and Bedrich Smetana's String Quartet No. 1 "From My Life". The group has played at medical conferences, weddings, as well as church services, and can be booked for private and public events.
